Eleuthera

The Bahamas island of Eleuthera is unique in that it is 110 miles long and as little as a mile wide in some places, making it the perfect destination for yacht charters. Sail around the island to visit the pink sand beaches or the ancient coral reefs in this untouched island utopia.

The name Eleuthera translates from Greek to mean “free.” And perhaps even today that name has meaning. Eleuthera is free from commercialism, free from crowding, free from everyday stress, and free to enjoy.

While the pink and white sand beaches and turquoise water may seem to be all there is to this thin island, which touches the ocean every chance it can, that is not an accurate assessment of this natural beauty. The eastern side of the island looks into the Atlanic Ocean and is characterized by tall cliffs and rocky coast. The western edge of Eleuthera Island is against the Great Bahama Bank, a raised area in the ocean with shallow water.

On this peaceful paradise, yacht charter guests can spend their days fishing, diving, snorkeling, and simply relaxing. Eleuthera is free of car horns and free of smog. It may also be free from cell phone service, so you won’t be interrupted while you lay back and do absolutely nothing.

However, this island in the Bahamas is not completely devoid of other activities. The many friendly villages that mark the coastline include Tarpum Bay, Bannerman Town, and Hatchet Bay, where you can find local eateries serving the island specialty of pineapple tarts. The Devil’s Backbone, a jagged reef that sits just north of Eleuthera, is so shallow that it is littered with natural wrecks worth exploring in a dive.
